Outside of Red Rock, Stephanie has coached at her local middle school in both volleyball and basketball. She has also been a swim instructor at Saint Ignatius high school, where she helped with the swim team and group lessons. Stephanie’s favorite part of coaching is interacting with the players while seeing their skills and relationships develop over the season. She can’t wait to share her volleyball knowledge and experience.

When not coaching, Stephanie loves to find the newest boba or dessert spots, going to a Giants, Warriors, or Niners game, and watching Netflix with friends!

Hallie was born and raised on the island of Guam and moved to California in 2021 to begin her college education at Santa Clara University. During high school, Hallie won the beach volleyball championship two years in a row for her school as well as the championship for team pairs.

Her volleyball experience doesn't stop there. Hallie was able to learn and experience a lot throughout her high school years. As a sophomore, she played on Guam's club volleyball team "Haggan" in which her and her teammates traveled to Anaheim to play in the Summer Soiree. During her high school indoor season she was awarded First Team All Island which allowed her the opportunity to play in the All Start Team Tournament playing alongside the best of the best around the island. Mikaila got involved in volleyball by watching her uncle play throughout his high school seasons and then later watching him play D2 at the college of UC Santa Cruz. She played on varsity her freshman year of high school at Sequoia High School.

Before Mikaila started her high school volleyball career as a libero, she also played as a setter, outside hitter, right side hitter, and a DS throughout club volleyball and middle school. Her favorite position to play is a libero because she enjoys having a voice on the court as well as setting up the play. One of Mikaila’s favorite memories from playing club volleyball was getting to travel with her team, especially team flights that they took to far away tournaments. Mikaila is entering her senior year of high school and has focused on getting her love back for the game that she loves after suffering a long term shoulder injury.

Mikaila is also greatly committed to her academic studies. Mikaila’s future endeavors include majoring in Criminal Law, pursing after a long family legacy in the same work force.

He began coaching as a way to stay connected with the sport as his children’s playing careers started to wind down. One of his biggest pleasures in life is teaching players to serve overhand for the first time and seeing the rush of confidence that builds in them.

His teams generally make the playoffs and have won league championships on occasion. He enjoys building team comradery and seeing his players progress in skill level and confidence. He is looking forward to the longer timeframe afforded by club volleyball to develop players.

Derby encourages a growth mindset on his teams. Mistakes are part of the learning process. If we are not making mistakes, then we are not pushing ourselves enough to improve. Reflecting on our performance and planning a way to do better is a life skill everyone can learn through sports. Through sports, we can also learn how to work as a team toward a common goal and feel the rush of accomplishing something as a group.

Not having the opportunity to play volleyball, Derby played varsity basketball and tennis in high school. He learned competitive volleyball after high school and plays when he can. His appreciation for the game increased during his child’s experience playing volleyball at school and in clubs.

Besides Red Rock, Derby works as an after-school sports coach (mostly tennis and pickleball, with some volleyball and basketball) and swim instructor.

Ultimately, Lawrence emphasis is to teach athletes to enjoy the process of learning and growing as a person each day.  Lawrence teaches his athletes If they can wake up each day and strive to be just a little better than the day before, that is the path to growth and greatness.  Over the long run a little bit each day adds up to massive achievements.  Teaching athletes the technical skills of volleyball is a difficult process,  but showing athletes the life skills necessary to achieve great things through empathy, integrity, teamwork, and loyalty is even a greater achievement.   It is the creating of relationships and friendships that make a great team and connecting and performing is where memories are lasting.   There are many mistakes along the way, but at the end of the day, if athletes, coaches, and parents  make it through the struggle and tough times by not quitting, everyone comes out together stronger in the end.

In his spare time, Lawrence loves to travel with his wife and two daughters.  Countries visited: UK,  France, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Norway, Italy, Monaco, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Switzerland, Costa Rica.   Lawrence favorite part of traveling is the food and finding fantastic places to hike in each country.   Above is a pic of Lawrence hiking around the Eiger which is located in the Bernese Alps overlooking Grindelwald, Switzerland.
