Josh Jung

Red Rock Boys 18-1

Josh Jung aka “JJ” was born and raised in San Francisco and has been coaching volleyball for 17 years. He has coached at various schools within SFUSD but has spent most of his time coaching at Lowell High School, where he graduated in 2008. In 2019, JJ was the assistant coach for the D3 State Champion Lowell Girls Volleyball team and in 2022, he was an assistant at Marin Catholic HS where they won the NCS D2 Championship. JJ is new to the club scene as this will be his 2nd season coaching club but he is excited for the opportunity to work for Red Rock. Currently, he is the head coach/program director of the Lowell Boys Volleyball team and an assistant coach at CCSF for the Women’s volleyball team.

As a coach, JJ hopes to inspire and motivate his athletes to be the best versions of themselves. Encouraging them to work hard and stay disciplined while trying to attain their goals. He’s grateful for his opportunity to work with various coaches during his coaching tenure and used those experiences to help mold and guide his style of coaching to what it is today.

When JJ is not coaching volleyball, he enjoys watching the Golden State Warriors and the San Francisco 49ers. He also enjoys spending time gaming, watching movies, and memorizing Ted Lasso motivational speeches.

Alejandro De Luna

Red Rock Boys 18-1

Alejandro was born and raised in Redwood City, and is currently a third year at Cañada College. After he completes his general education courses at Cañada, he plans to transfer to a four year college (hopefully in Southern California) to get his bachelor's degree in kinesiology. Once that is accomplished, he plans on going to an out of state Chiropractic College. As long as he can remember, he has always been involved in sports, and being part of a high level and competitive team. He was part of a three time state cup winning soccer team until he stopped, to explore other sports. One of his favorite memories while being a part of a high level team is when he traveled to England and Spain to compete against other high level teams in soccer.

When he finished playing soccer, he decided to start playing basketball. There he joined a club team where he traveled across the country for tournaments, and he played for his high school team as well. He ultimately stopped playing other sports when the boys volleyball team was introduced. He was on the first ever Sequoia Boys varsity volleyball team, and has been a part of the organization every year after that. Although Alejandro began playing volleyball that year, he has been directly around it since 3rd grade, due to his sister’s involvement in high level clubs. After his first high school season, he played one summer season at Bay to Bay to improve his fundamental skills, and learn what being a part of a high level volleyball club is like. Throughout his volleyball career, he mainly played outside hitter, middle, and right side, but has become comfortable in most positions. He continues to go play at open gyms, and is attempting recruitment for D3 schools. If that is not an option then he hopes to play for the club team of wherever he transfers to. Alejandro started coaching volleyball as the assistant coach of the Sequoia boys varsity volleyball team in 2022, and was the head coach of the Sequoia JV boys volleyball team since 2023. There he really focused on teaching his players the fundamentals of the game so they can eventually be ready to play at a higher level. He introduced and developed players, some of which had never touched a volleyball, to what being on a volleyball team is like, and how to see the game from different parts of the court. He loves being able to help his team gain confidence in any aspect of volleyball and to watch them improve each and every day.

Last season, he was the assistant coach of the Red Rock Boys 18-national team, and has learned more of what it is to coach at a very high level. Along with high schoolers, he has worked with children ages 6-12 at Decathlon Sports Club for 4 years as a Counselor. Here, he teaches kids the importance of sportsmanship, and the basic fundamentals of a variety of different sports. He looks forward to coaching in the near and distant future. When Alejandro is not doing anything volleyball related, he loves spending time with his friends, going to the gym and staying active, and anything that involves music. He is a NASM certified personal trainer at The Weight Room in Redwood City (Let him know if you are interested). He also loves working with kids, coaching, and being a mentor.

Riley Holland

Red Rock Boys 14-1

Riley began her club volleyball journey in 2011 with her first year spent an area team then transitioned to competitive power teams until 2018. Her main position was libero/DS while sometimes substituting as OH. She was a member of both Payes 12 Black followed by Redrock 12 Black, and she made her permanent move to Vision Volleyball Club her 13s season. Her teams made huge accomplishments: qualifying for Nationals six times, winning Far Westerns twice, and placing third at Colorado Crossroads in 2016. Staying in the Gold division of the NCVA was consistent, and her teams finished within the top 5 for almost every season. Her 15 Gold team at Vision went undefeated in the entire NCVA league, where she served as both libero and DS.

Riley attended high school at Menlo School, graduating in 2019. For Menlo she played varsity volleyball beginning freshman year, and played a key role as libero/DS in her teams’ successes over the four years she played. While she was a member of the team, Menlo won their league play and consequently participated in the CCS Open Division three times, and the 2016 Menlo team won the Division 4 State Championship. In her senior year, Riley earned an award as an All WBAL Team recipient and led the team as the starting libero.

She played club volleyball there to stay in touch with the game, even playing with some people she played against while at Menlo. She has returned to the Bay Area to be with her family while taking a break from school, and she has since reconnected with volleyball through her sister, Quinn, and father, Tony, being coaches themselves. Riley’s main goal and characteristic as a player was being a leader on the court and pushing people to be the best they could be, and as a coach she strives to instill the same values in her players. Her love and passion for the sport is evident in her commitment to bettering kids’ skills and mindset, two aspects that are crucial in volleyball.

When Riley is not coaching, she thoroughly enjoys reading outside, her favorite authors including Dostoevsky and Sylvia Plath. She also loves to visit her friends all around the country, and her favorite places to go include Los Angeles, New York, and back to New Orleans.

Jonathan Santos

Red Rock Boys
Jonathan started his volleyball journey at 6 years old learning from his uncle who started the boy’s volleyball program at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep. After playing a few summer co-ed seasons in elementary and middle school while co-head coaching his sister’s volleyball team, he tried out for Diablo Volleyball Club for the summer season. His team went on to get 13th in the open division at that year’s BJNC. While co-head coaching his sister’s teams, they won two gold medals in their divisions and half of the girls went on to play for their high school teams.

He then played for Pacific Rim Volleyball Club, as the first team ever for the club alongside players who would become volleyball stars like Joe and Gage Worsley, Micah Ma’a, Jordan Ewert, just to name a few. As an OH and then an eventual libero, his team won the bronze medal his 14s year, and two gold medals in the open division his 17s and 18s year. Throughout these years, Jonathan gained a ton of experience playing against the best players in the country, which culminated in collegiate opportunities. He, along with every single one of his teammates, was recruited to a plethora of colleges of all divisions. These included NYU, UC Santa Cruz, Elmira, and Stevens.

Jonathan attended St. Ignatius College Preparatory for high school and completed four years of varsity boys volleyball there. Jonathan played for UC Santa Cruz as the starting libero from 2016-2019 earning accolades such as Most Digs Recorded in a Single Game in school history, and eventually a Runner-Up trophy at the 2019 NCAA DIII national championships. Throughout the summers of collegiate volleyball, he head coached volleyball camps for Pacific Rim. Following his graduation from UCSC with a BS in MCD Biology, Jonathan head coached the 16-1 boys team for Pacific Rim and earned two open bids with his team. He assisted in the recruitment process for multiple players on his team some of whom now play for well known schools such as CSU Northridge, UC Irvine, and Wentworth.

Among some of his coaching philosophies, he believes all players have the capability to reach their attainable goals with hard work and discipline, and prides himself on teaching the importance of technique plus athleticism and work ethic, as well as ensuring all players have the most optimal experience. He then assisted a girls team which was unable to complete their season due to COVID. Since then, Jonathan has been pursuing a master’s degree in nursing and currently is a Registered Nurse.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis, reading sci-fi books, watching the newest Marvel movie/tv show, and playing volleyball when he can. Jonathan hopes to bring his extensive volleyball experience both playing and coaching to his new team!

Ultimately, Lawrence emphasis is to teach athletes to enjoy the process of learning and growing as a person each day.  Lawrence teaches his athletes If they can wake up each day and strive to be just a little better than the day before, that is the path to growth and greatness.  Over the long run a little bit each day adds up to massive achievements.  Teaching athletes the technical skills of volleyball is a difficult process,  but showing athletes the life skills necessary to achieve great things through empathy, integrity, teamwork, and loyalty is even a greater achievement.   It is the creating of relationships and friendships that make a great team and connecting and performing is where memories are lasting.   There are many mistakes along the way, but at the end of the day, if athletes, coaches, and parents  make it through the struggle and tough times by not quitting, everyone comes out together stronger in the end.

In his spare time, Lawrence loves to travel with his wife and two daughters.  Countries visited: UK,  France, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Norway, Italy, Monaco, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Switzerland, Costa Rica.   Lawrence favorite part of traveling is the food and finding fantastic places to hike in each country.   Above is a pic of Lawrence hiking around the Eiger which is located in the Bernese Alps overlooking Grindelwald, Switzerland.
